Volunteer Opportunities

Our more than 400 Lifeline Tasmania volunteer are the backbone of our organisation and play a vital role in suicide awareness and prevention throughout Tasmania.

No matter where your interests lie, we have a volunteer opportunity that will suit you:

  • Volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporters (Southern Tasmania)
Crisis Supporters go through a thorough application and training process long before they take their first call. Once accepted, you will complete training to become a qualified Crisis Supporter. Lifeline Tasmania Crisis Supporters are part of a national team that help prevent suicide across the country.
  • Lifeline Shop Retail Volunteers
Lifeline Tasmania has shops across the state that are always looking for volunteers to work as retail assistants. You don't have to have retail experience, just a passion for great customer service and a willingness to learn.
  • Lifeline Shop Warehouse Assistants
Not keen on a face-to-face volunteer role? Perhaps you might consider becoming a volunteer Warehouse Assistant. These roles provide a vital service sorting goods and getting them ready for sale. An excellent way to boost your CV.
  • Chats Calls Volunteers, Chats Hosts, Chats Drivers
Chats is a social support program for older Tasmanians that offers a large variety of social activities each calendar month, providing transport and opportunities to get out of the house, meet new people, share new experiences and develop friendships. If this sounds like something you could get involved with there is capacity for volunteers to make calls to participants, attend and help out at activities or drive participants to activities.
  • Community Visitors
Our Community Visitors are volunteers who have been carefully matched with older people and who are committed to meeting with them weekly or at least once a fortnight.
All of our Community Visitors have been screened and trained and participate in one of three ways:
    • One-to-one visits in residential aged care homes; or
    • Group visits in residential aged care homes (visiting two or more residents at the same time); or
    • Visiting older people living in their own home, who are receiving a Home Care Package.
