Child Safety
Lifeline Tasmania is dedicated to creating safe spaces where the wellbeing and voices of children and young people are respected and protected. We involve families and communities to foster awareness and support for child safety, and we are committed to treating every child with dignity, equity, and fairness, regardless of their background or needs. Through robust policies, training, and collaboration, we aim to empower children and create environments that prioritise their safety both online and offline.
If you’re concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please contact Strong Families Safe Kids on 1800 000 123 or visit https://strongfamiliessafekids.tas.gov.au/.

Cultural Safety & the 10 Standards
Cultural Safety
Aboriginal cultural safety means creating environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel respected, included, and supported in their cultural identity through equity, understanding, and collaboration. At Lifeline Tasmania we will ensure all children feel safe and are safe when accessing our services, and support children to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights.
Standard 3
Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Lifeline Tasmania will continue to promote child safety both online through social media, and within our community where we can.
Standard 6
Processes to respond to complaints and concerns are child focused.
Lifeline Tasmania is committed to gaining feedback and complaints from children and the greater community. We welcome any feedback, whether big or small, about how we are doing as a Child Safe Organisation, as well as any complaints about a member of the Lifeline Tasmania community.
Standard 9
Implementation of the Child and Youth Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
As more information on the Child and Youth Safe Framework comes out, Lifeline Tasmania will adapt and continue to improve to become a resilient Child Safe Organisation.
Standard 1
Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
All of Lifeline Tasmania care about children and young people’s safety and wellbeing above everything else.
Standard 4
Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
All children and young people are treated with dignity, respect and fairness at Lifeline Tasmania regardless of gender, race, disability or sexuality. Where possible, we will be equitable in how we accommodate the needs of children and young people.
Standard 7
Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
All Lifeline Tasmania staff have received and will continue to receive access to mandatory training to ensure they know how to keep children and young people safe.
Standard 10
Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
Lifeline Tasmania has released a bundle of new Child and Young Person Safety policies and procedures. Please see below to understand what we are committing to as a child safe organisation.
Standard 2
Children and young people are informed about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
All children that interact with Lifeline Tasmania will be informed about their rights in a way that’s appropriate to their age.
Standard 5
People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
All workers and people associated with Lifeline Tasmania (employees, students, volunteers, board members, ambassadors) are safe to work with children and vulnerable people. All workers have their WWVP check and go through screening to ensure they are suitable. Every worker understands how to keep children safe.
Standard 8
Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Children and young people are safe in all of Lifeline Tasmania’s online and physical spaces. We have conducted a risk assessment of all services and programs to understand where the risk lies and to make our spaces as safe as possible.
