What needs to change? Suicide in the construction industry
Building Strong Foundations - what needs to change? is a Lifeline Tasmania initiative focused on suicide prevention, mental health and wellbeing across Tasmania’s construction and allied trades industries.
Construction workers in Australia are around twice as likely to die by suicide as workers in other industries. In Tasmania, many of the same challenges and risk factors are present, highlighting the need for industry-wide action.

These suicide prevention forums bring together workers, employers, industry leaders, apprentices and community organisations to have practical conversations about what needs to change. The initiative recognises that suicide prevention in the construction industry is not simply an individual issue. It is an industry issue that requires workplaces, communities and individuals to work together.
Lifeline Tasmania is committed to working alongside the construction and allied trades industry to understand its unique challenges and develop approaches that support meaningful, long-term change.
Building Strong Foundations is an opportunity for industry to have a say, share experiences and contribute to practical solutions. No single organisation can prevent suicide alone. Meaningful change requires all of us to play a role.
